Goals for Guyana
The Millenium Development Goals were adopted by 189 countries in 2000. They were set in place to overcome poverty by 2015 under specific targets.
The 8 goals include:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality and empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental sustainability
8. Develop a Global Partnership for Development
Over the past decade, Guyana has seemed to make a lot of progress in achieving The Millennium Development Goals.
They have already reduced hunger while improving the nutrition and health of children, increased access to social services and benefits, improved enrollment and completion of primary education, and increased the empowerment of women. With this, there is always room for more improvement so Guyana continues to work on education as a whole, water sanitation, HIV/AIDS, and maternal health. Maternal health seems to need more effort than other categories. Unfortunately, at the rate they are going, Guyana may not meet it's goals by the suggested time of 2015.

Along with The Millennium Development Goals set in place I would like to add my own goals to further develop Guyana.
1. A number one problem I see is migration out of the country. I would like to reduce the migration numbers to avoid losing the talented and skilled laborers needed to make the country flourish.
2. Guyana does not own all of its land. As of right now Venezuela claims a large part of Guyana. I would like Guyana to be truly independent meaning they would need to re-establish territory borders.
3. 80% of Guyana is made up of tropical forest. I would like to continue to protect it from deforestation.
